I’m an artist of sorts… i take from the environment around me, the textures, the smells, the noises, the subtle changes/differences that keep and draw to your being… all of that.. inspires my art and my music.
i started singing when i was young… learned how to play the paino when i was 12. i can doodle on it and make noise! but mostly i learned how to read music. That’s helpful. Kknowing somewhere in the back of my brain i have the knowledge of music form… now that I perform mostly improve i have, though i don’t really know how… a great grasp of how the music should flow.
when i was in my teens i would go to a local coffee shop. Victorian’s midnight cafe.. that was like my spot yo!! Anyways, I would go to the open mic’s and sign up. id wait till people started showing and and force people to get up and play with me…. cause i dont play an instrument… i wanted to sing! Thats what started my improve music. there i met crazy pete.. yep hes crazy… lol he kept telling me i needed to sing the blues. so i went to a blues jams for about 5 yrs and man did i learn the blues.
recently i was enjoying playing with a group of more noise /jazz guys. that really opened my eyes to the beauty of jazz and what i can be. now that we’ve traveled so far from the original pure jazz, there’s so much more influence that can change and adjust jazz to take it to many other spaces. it’s the perfect element for me to do what i do. Art music. taken from the environment, the people, the smells, the art, the music. so is art music? or music art? you decide come to a show!
